Finding work outside the United States has long been a dream of mine. Now that President Trump has decided to take the American Dream and burn it to the ground until nothing is left but the shadow of the wall, I finally made the choice to call my new home Singapore. Massive Infinity in Singapore is one of those companies that are able to provide work for mobile developers like myself that absolutely need a change of pace. I can’t stand by and watch my beautiful country become corrupted by the idiocy that is our supposed President – a man who lost the popular vote but is somehow still our Commander in Chief.
Singapore knows what they’re about. (more…)
Living in Seaside Residences has been pretty great. Last week, some of the other people who live in the building decided to have an outdoor party. I haven’t been living here as long as they have, so this was my first time going to one of the parties they have at the building. They use the outdoor grilling area to cook up lots of tasty food. One of my favorite things in the world to eat is Singaporean cuisine, so this was like heaven for me.
I met some new people at the party that also lived in the building. There are a lot of rooms in the building, so unless you knock on each door and talk to every person, the chances of meeting everyone outside of a party setting where they’re all in one place isn’t exactly likely. I didn’t realize that there were so many people my age living in the building. I always thought that aside from the ones living on a few of the floors, everyone else was a little older. (more…)
I have been in this part of the Silicon Valley for a couple of years now, of course in theory there is a lot of money to be made here and that is in spite of the fact that there is an utterly insane cost of living here. You can see a really ordinary house around here, just like the one you grew up in and it lists for well over a million dollars. Right now I am doing some work for a chiropractor in Campbell who dabbles in real estate. A lot of people do that around here, because you can really turn a profit on a job if you do things right. In fact a lot of the time they just tear down the house after they buy it. (more…)
When I moved into my new house, I was not able to afford to buy brand new furniture and appliances. I was able to get a nice living set and kitchen table from a thrift store, and I purchased a stove and fridge from a secondhand shop in town. It might not be much to some people, but it was huge for me. Everything was fine for the first few months, then one of the burners stopped working on my stove. I knew I needed to look up major appliance repair in Sacramento when a second burner stopped working.
I really liked the stove because it was still fairly new. I figured that it could be a really easy fix, or the repairman could tell me that I needed to junk it. I was really hoping for the first though. (more…)
Well, I expected to have a lot of crunch time with my own business, but I really had no idea just how busy things would be until I actually got into the trenches and started the business I now run. It keeps me on my toes for sure. Yesterday, I was talking to my accountant about something, and she mentioned she needs to see real check stubs given to the two employees who work for me. Because there are only two people working for me, I had just been paying them via an online payment system that doesn’t give stubs. She told me that I can do it online. I was pretty grateful because my day yesterday was jam packed with so many things to do. I hope it quiets down one day.
I hired my first employee when I realized that it was a must. I had been doing everything alone for about a year and half. It kept me busy day in and day out. But when I found myself working 15 hour days and still not completing everything, I knew I could no longer make it alone and needed help. So, I hired a marketing person. He’s fantastic. He handles everything to do with advertising now, and that did help take a lot off of my hands. But after another year, I found that I needed even more help.
The second person that I hired is my assistant. She does so many different things, and she came to me with a lot of experience. So, there was not much training time involved, which I’m grateful for. Pretty much everything she does for me I can hand the work to her and she’s off and running on her own. I still try to handle some things myself when my assistant is busy, such as getting the check stubs together that my accountant asked for.
